If I speak in the tongues of men or of angels, but do not have love, I am only a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal. If I have the gift of prophecy and can fathom all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have a faith that can move mountains, but do not have love, I am nothing. If I give all I possess to the poor and give over my body to hardship that I may boast, but do not have love, I gain nothing. Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. 1 Corinthians 13:1-7

“Dear friends, let us love one another, for love comes from God. Everyone who loves has been born of God and knows God. Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love. This is how God showed his love among us: He sent his one and only Son into the world that we might live through him.” “No one has ever seen God; but if we love one another, God lives in us and his love is made complete in us.” 1 John 4:7-9,12

Love is part of our identity. We live in a time where everyone is “identifying” as something. Our participation or group defines the world's idea of identity, but God says we live in him, and he is LOVE. And since we are made in the image of God, our identity is love. Paul describes it best in his letter to Corinth. He outlines for us how love should be represented in our actions. Our participation ought to be from our identity in Christ, which is love.

Today, let us participate in representing the things of love rather than be a part of the trending groups that primarily identify with the ways of the world. And that usually means the opposite of what God intended. Our love for each other should transcend all barriers and differences. Take time today to make decisions and actions based on love.

Prayer: Heavenly Father, I pray that we display more of our true identity in Jesus, that is, love. I ask that your Spirit of love pour in us so we can be a daily example for those around. In Jesus’ name amen.
